Table. 2.

Comparison of real-time RT-PCR results between sputum and NPS & OPS specimens

NPS & OPS specimen
Positive Negative
Sputum specimen
Positive 275 (8.1) 18 (0.5)
Negative 27 (0.8) 3,070 (90.6)

Values are presented as number (%).

RT-PCR, reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction; NPS, nasopharyngeal swabs; OPS, oropharyngeal swabs.

P-value=0.233 by McNemar’s test; Cohen’s Kappa=0.917 (95% confidence interval, 0.905–0.929). Cohen’s Kappa: <0, poor; 0–0.2, slight; 0.21–0.4, fair; 0.41–0.6, moderate; 0.61–0.8, substantial; 0.81–1, almost perfect. Sensitivity of sputum specimen is 91.6%; [(275+18)/(275+18+27)]×100(%). Sensitivity of NPS & OPS specimen is 94.4%; [(275+27)/(275+27+18)]×100(%).
